The Aztlan Movement "Aztlan" was the name for the mythical ancient homeland of the Aztecs. It is used to refer to the former Mexican territory "stolen" during the Mexican-American War (1848) and now "occupied" by the United States. (See map.) This area consists of the states of Texas, New Mexico, Arizona, Nevada, California, Utah and Colorado. The goal of the Aztlan movement is to "liberate" the southwestern states and form an independent homeland, and eventually to re-unite with Mexico.
