The U.S.ENGLISH Foundation is dedicated to helping immigrants learn the English language so they may reap the economic and social benefits available in the United States today. Britain has hundreds of years of experience in teaching English as a Second Language, and therefore has an innovative education system with resourceful programs from which relevant techniques and materials can be derived and used as models in the United States. The U.S.ENGLISH Foundation is sponsoring two scholarships through the US-UK Fulbright Commission focusing on the teaching of English as a Second Language (ESL) in the United Kingdom for practical application in the United States. The recipients of the scholarships will be American graduates who will each spend a year at a British university for research or postgraduate study. The focus of one of the awards is the practical methodology of teaching ESL and the other award the sociology of second language development. Award winners will work on a pre-defined project aimed at utilizing the methods learned through the UK program upon return to the U.S. For more information on how to apply for the U.S.ENGLISH Foundation/Fulbright Scholarships, visit the U.K. Fulbright Scholarship page.
