U.S.ENGLISH CHAIRMAN, MAURO E. MUJICA'S, STATEMENT ABOUT GRANTING AMNESTY TO MILIONS OF ILLEGAL IMMIGRANTS:

"President George W. Bush should reject any proposal that urges him to support amnesty for millions of illegal immigrants. Such a move might evoke animosity among legal immigrants, and send the wrong message to those who wish to enter this country legally.

"There are millions of immigrants like me who waited their turn, filled out all the paper work, and complied with the law to become part of America. Granting blanket amnesty to millions of illegal immigrants will send the message that you can come to America illegally and face no consequences - - there will be no incentive to come to America legally. This would simply not be fair to many in America's immigrant community who sacrificed to come here legally. We can not turn a blind eye to the law for some in favor for others - - such an action would defy the justice we so treasure in this country."

U.S.ENGLISH is the nation's oldest, largest citizens' action group dedicated to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States. Founded in 1983 by the late Sen. S.I. Hayakawa of California, U.S.ENGLISH now has more than 1.5 million members nationwide.
