Rep. Steve Scalise becomes newest co-sponsor of H.R. 997

Rep. Steve Scalise today became the newest co-sponsor of H.R. 997, the English Language Unity Act. The bill now has 149 co-sponsors.

Rep. Scalise was elected to serve Louisiana's first Congressional district in a special election in May. He took over the seat vacated by Gov. Bobby Jindal, who also supported official English legislation during his time in Congress.

U.S. English, Inc. is the nation's oldest and largest non-partisan citizens' action group dedicated to preserving the unifying role of the English language in the United States. Founded in 1983 by the late Sen. S.I. Hayakawa of California, U.S. English, Inc. (www.usenglish.org) now has more than 1.8 million members.
