Rep. Pete Olson Becomes Newest Co-Sponsor of H.R. 997

The English Language Unity Act picked up its 102nd co-sponsor in the House of Representatives with the support of Rep. Pete Olson. Rep. Olson, a first term Congressman from the 22nd Congressional District of Texas, signed onto H.R. 997 on Tuesday, bringing the total number of co-sponsors to 102 from 35 states.

During his campaign last year, Rep. Olsen signed a pledge to support official English legislation if elected to the House of Representatives. He is one of 59 pledge signers to follow through on his promise to uphold to the common bond of the English language in the United States.

Also on Tuesday, Rep. Todd Akin became the 23rd co-sponsor of H.R. 764, legislation that would reduce the provision of election ballots in languages other than English. Rep. Akin is in his fifth term representing Missouri’s Second Congressional District. Rep. Akin has been a strong supporter of official English legislation since coming to the House of Representatives and he was honored with an A in English Award for his effort to promote the unifying bond of English during the 110th Congress
