April 3, 2009

New co-sponsors were added to three official English-related bills now pending in the 111th Congress.

Rep. Robert Wittman (VA) became the 27th co-sponsor of legislation that would reduce the use of multilingual ballots in the United States. H.R. 764 was introduced by Rep. Dean Heller at the end of January.

Rep. Ginny Brown-Waite (FL) became the 28th co-sponsor of H.R. 1414, the Multilingual Accounting Services Act. Introduced by Rep. Virginia Foxx, H.R. 1414 would require federal agencies to account for the cost of services provided in languages other than English.

H.R. 1588, legislation to protect employers who establish English-in-the-Workplace policies, received a boost with the co-sponsorship of Rep. Kevin McCarthy (CA). There are now 39 co-sponsors of the Common Sense English Act. The bill was introduced in March by Rep. Tom Price.
