86 Percent of Oklahomans Support Making English the Official Language

As the Oklahoma House of Representatives prepares to vote on an initiative to make English the official language, a new SoonerPoll.com survey has found that 86 percent of Oklahoma likely voters favor making English the official language of the state.

This week, the Oklahoma House is expected to vote on H.J.R. 1042, a measure that would give Oklahoma voters the opportunity to make English the official language of the state. If passed by the House, the initiative would appear on the Nov. 2010 general election ballot. H.J.R. 1042 passed the Oklahoma Senate 44-2 last month.

The poll of 318 likely voters in Oklahoma was conducted April 23-26 and has a margin of error of 5.5 percentage points.
