U.S.ENGLISH Chairman/CEO Mauro E. Mujica made a statement today regarding a decision by Utah's Third Judicial District Court in Salt Lake City to uphold Initiative A:
March 5, 2001
"We are delighted and encouraged Utah's Third Judicial District Court affirmed the constitutionality of Initiative A, and recognized that it respects the fundamental rights of all Utahns. Today the court has also upheld the wishes of the 67 percent of Utahns who voted in favor of Initiative A last November. This is a victory for Utahns who wish to remain united through a common language. I hope that new immigrants journeying to the great state of Utah will embrace, and learn the English language so they can have every opportunity to achieve the American dream."
