Rep. Scott Garrett Brings H.R. 997 Co-Sponsor Total to 113

New Jersey Congressman Scott Garrett became the newest co-sponsor of H.R. 997 yesterday, bringing the total number of co-sponsors of legislation to make English the official language to 113. Rep. Garrett, who is in his fourth term representing the Garden State’s Fifth Congressional District, has supported official English legislation in every session since coming to Congress in 2003.
In addition to being a co-sponsor of H.R. 997, Rep. Garrett is also a co-sponsor of H.R. 1414, legislation that would require the government to account for the costs of multilingual services, and H.R. 1588, legislation that would protect employers with English-in-the-Workplace policies. His outstanding efforts to support official English measures earned Rep. Garrett an “A in English” Award from U.S. English last May.
Introduced by Rep. Steve King less than three months ago, H.R. 997 now has 113 bi-partisan co-sponsors from 36 states.
