Official English Support Grows in U.S. Senate

Action is picking up in the Senate on S. 991, legislation that would make English the official language of the United States. Introduced by Sen. James Inhofe of Oklahoma, S. 991 is the companion measure to H.R. 997 in the House of Representatives.
Since the end of summer recess in Congress, three Senators have joined Sen. Inhofe as co-sponsors of S. 991. Sen. Saxby Chambliss of Georgia, Sen. Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Sen. Johnny Isakson of Georgia have all become co-sponsors of the bill in the last five weeks. All three Senators have been strong supporters of uniting our nation through the common language of English during their time on Capitol Hill.
