ARTICLE OF INTEREST: Official English Bills Are Not Unfair to Immigrants

February 4, 2011

Fox News contributor and Cuban American, By Dr. Manny Alvarez, came out in favor today of bills that have been introduced in Minnesota and Indiana to make English as the official language of those states.

As he notes, “This isn’t a new or radical proposition. In most developed countries around the globe, newly arrived citizens are expected to deal with the official language. Learning English does not take away from your individuality and your ability to grow independently in whatever other foreign language you choose to speak.”

Currently, 31 states have passed official English legislation. Four states have already introduced legislation in the 2011 legislative session, with more expected to be introduced in the coming weeks.
