Take Action (How you can help)
There are several ways in which you can become actively involved in helping U.S.ENGLISH make our common language, English, our nations official language.
Testimonials. U.S.ENGLISHs Government Relations Department is asking U.S.ENGLISH members and supporters to provide us with written testimonials of personal experiences regarding English as our common language.
We want you to tell us why Official English is important to you and why local, state, and federal governments should pass legislation making English the official (common) language. Copies of these testimonials will be forwarded to your legislators, representatives, and senators to show the personal support of U.S.ENGLISH members in their constituencies. This is a chance to make your voice heard.
Testimonials should be typewritten (if possible) and mailed to Government Relations Department.
Contacting Your Elected Officials. Another way to assist our efforts is to contact your elected officials and ask them to support English as our nations official language.
Examples of Multilingual Government. The U.S.ENGLISH Research Department is collecting examples of government use of languages other than English, such as bilingual ballots, multilingual forms, or letters written in other languages. If you come across any such materials, please mail them to our Research Department.
Media Outreach. Media are the best third-party endorsers for any cause or organization. You can help the official English movement progress forward by contacting your local and regional reporters and editors. Whether writing letters to the editor, crafting a thought-provoking op-ed or speaking with a reporter about writing a news story, your media outlets present excellent vehicles for reaching the public-at-large. If you would like information on how to contact your local press, please write to our Media Department.
